5 street food stalls not to miss in Saigon

“Hai Co” spicy sticky rice, Bap (corn) Cho or Den Dau pudding has been become famous for many guests although they do not have brand signs.

Hai Co Spicy sticky rice in District 5

The stall is on the pavement of Nguyen Duy Phuong str. (District 5) without brand sign or furniture,  but it has been run for over 50 years, opening from 06 am to 10 am, almost all people order take-away food Vietnam.

The sticky rice balls are packed by banana leaves in accordance with the traditional style. If the guests find alright, the seller will put the rice balls into the spongy boxes. The prices are only VND 10,000 for children and VND 15,000 – 20,000 for adults.

Baked Bap (corn) cho in District 10

Guests to the baked corn on the pavement of Nguyen Kim even may have to queue up to an hour. The greatest difference of the stall with others is that the baked corns are only marinated and baked when guests order so that the flavor can be remained. The stall waiters will give guests coupons which they write your names and number. You will be served until your turn.

Che Den Dau (oil lamp pudding) in Go Vap District

The stall is located on the pavement of Nguyen Kiem Street (Go Vap district). It name may make some guests confused. In fact, the stall only uses one oil lamp at night which is light enough for guests recognizing each other. The stall is run by Mr. and Mrs Tu who is over 70 year olds. The stall has been opened for over 40 years. The price for a cup is only VND 5,000 which has remained for 10 years.

Bread with dried pork dumplings in District 1

The small stall is situated on the pavement of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street. There are a lot of guests come here to enjoy the bread everyday. Unlike other pork dumplings, the tiny dried pork dumplings are wrapped by wonton shells served with soy sauce and chili. The owner said that the recipe was transmitted by his father who is Chinese Vietnamese and the recipe has been down from generation to generation. Until now, the stall has been opened over 40 years.

The prices for a box of dried pork dumplings and fired wonton shells are VND 20,000; and it is VND 17,000to 20,000 for a bread with dried pork dumplings depending on the size.

Duck noodle soup with bamboo shoot stall to open in an hour in Tan Binh District

The stall has no signs and is located deep in the alley 281 Le Van Sy Street, Tan Binh District. However, this 30 year old stall is always busy. The stall only is opened from 15.30 and is closed about an hour later. Because of strict opening time, guests have to come on time or even much early in order to be served.
